  • 2 May : Inauguration of the exhibition “Shared Spaces in Times of Crises: Memories of Alexandria, Ancona, Beirut, Bethlehem and Split” in Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah, as part of the Mediterranean Voices project.

  • 28 April : The Information Day of the Delta project continues for the public in the Bethlehem Peace Center in Bethlehem.

  • 21 April : Official opening of the Information Day of the Delta project, in Jacir Palace Intercontinental in Bethlehem.

  • 20 April : Inauguration of the exhibition “Shared Spaces in Times of Crises: Memories of Alexandria, Ancona, Beirut, Bethlehem and Split” in the school of Fine Arts at the Najah National University in Nablus, as part of the Mediterranean Voices project.

  • 7 April : Inauguration of the exhibition “Shared Spaces in Times of Crises: Memories of Alexandria, Ancona, Beirut, Bethlehem and Split” in the Bethlehem Peace Center in Bethlehem, as part of the Mediterranean Voices project.

  • 16-20 March : 2nd thematic workshop in the Delta project, on development of Mediterranean cultural identity, which took place in Rhodes in Greece.

  • 27 February- 5 March : 7 th thematic workshop in the Delta project, on presentation of action plan and elaboration of pilot projects, which took place in Malta.

  • 11-15 February : Mediterranean Voices consortium meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.

Events 2004

  • 26 December : Inauguration of the exhibition “Shared Spaces in Times of Crises: Memories of Alexandria, Ancona, Beirut, Bethlehem and Split” in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt as part of the Mediterranean Voices project.

  • 23 December : Signing of an agreement between Sida and the Centre for the rehabilitation projects in the Bethlehem District. (Click here for picture)

  • 9-11 December : 5th thematic workshop in the Delta project on safeguard and compatible use of heritage, which took place in Malta.

  • 30 Nov- 4 Jan 2005 : Radio programme of six episodes on Radio Bethlehem 2000 through the Mediterranean Voices project, titled “Ajial Tatawassal”. (Click here for pictures)

  • 23 October : Olive Harvest Festival.

  • 15 October : The Centre inaugurated an architectural exhibition entitled “Tarmeem” as a partner with RIWAQ and Hebron Rehabilitation Committee.

  • 1-3 October : 6th thematic workshop in the Delta project on development of networked activities related to culture, which took place in Syracuse in Italy.

  • 23-27 September : Scientific Committee meeting for Mediterranean Voices team in Bethlehem.

  • 4 September : “Conservation Plan for the Old Core of Bethlehem: Perspectives and Recommendations” presented by French students trained in Bethlehem.

  • June : French students trained in Bethlehem exhibited their work in the school of Architecture at Versailles.

  • 17-19 June : RMSU conference for Euromed Heritage II partners in Rome, Italy.

  • 14 April : Tradition and Modernity: Architecture of the Arab World a lecture by Ja’far Toukan, followed by an exhibition of a retrospective of his architectural achievements.

  • 6 March : Public Contribution to the Process of Cultural Heritage Development, a workshop for presenting the findings of a socio-economic survey conducted in Bethlehem.

  • 18 September : Historian Khalil Shokeh gives a lecture on Ottoman Bethlehem

  • 4 September : Majed abu Qubu’, Applied Research Institute, presents the project of the building of an integrated Geographical Information System for Artas.

  • 21 August : Inauguration of exhibition Nablus: Ville et architecture.

  • 7 August : Arch. Omar Youssef gives a lecture entitled Domes and Arches: architecture or lifestyle?

  • 31 July : Arch. Usama Hamdan lectures on the documentation of projects.

  • 17 July : Dr. Adnan Mussallam gives a presentation on the social history of Bethlehem.

  • 3 July : Arch. Nader Hadweh gives a presentation on the restoration of Church of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem.

  • 14-18 May : 1st thematic workshop in the Delta project on management and development of the landscape and integration of architecture and contemporary art, which took place in Seville in Spain.

  • 13 March-4 April : Les Habitats: exhibition by French artist Luc Chéry, who presents his perception of temporary structures serving as habitat.

  • 15-18 March : Mediterranean Voices consortium meeting in Las Palmas, Spain.

  • 8 March : International Women’s Day, where our Centre presented its work and underlined the role women could play in the preservation process.

Events 2002

  •  13 December : inauguration of Mar Aphram Children’s Library (cancelled due to the curfew).

  • 1-5 December : participation at the ICOMOS General Assembly Conference, which took place in Madrid (cancelled due to the curfew imposed on the Bethlehem District).

  •  16 November: visit of an Austrian delegation to the Beit Jala Old Core project, which was covered by ORF, the Austrian national television.

  • 6 November : closing event of Awareness Campaign, in the presence of the Governor of Bethlehem, Mr. Mohammad Madani and the Director of Education, Abdallah Shakarni, marked the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

  •  1st November : panel discussion on local TV related to our Awareness Campaign with School Children and as part of our efforts to reach out to the community.

  •  24 October : kick off day of Awareness Campaign for School Children in the presence of the Head of the Representative Office of Germany, Dr. Andreas Reinicke, and the Head of GTZ office, Dr. Heinz-Michael Hauser.

  •  4 October : visit of Director of World Heritage Centre, Francesco Bandarin, to Bethlehem.

  •  October : The Olive Harvest Festival.

  • 21-25 June : Inaugural partners' meeting for "Mediterranean Voices: Oral History and Cultural Practice in Mediterranean Cities", in London, United Kingdom.

  • 24-25 May : "Tourism and Heritage in the Mediterranean" the third conference on tourism organized by Festival Méditerranéen, an NGO located in Grasse, France, and involved in issues concerning responsible tourism. Our delegate attended the conference and gave a presentation on "Cultural Heritage under Occupation".

  • 20-23 May : Launch seminar of first activity (SP1) of Delta Project: "Development of guidelines and common methodologies"; seconf meeting of Steering Committee.

  • May 2002 : UNESCO World Heritage Centre

    Training Workshop on the Application of the World Heritage Convention and the Harmonization of Tentative Lists in the Arab Region.

    The five-day workshop included participants from 16 Arab countries, UNESCO experts, World Heritage Committee (WHC) consultants and staff as well as observers. The workshop provided an assessment of the current status of the Arab Region compared with other parts of the world in terms of their interaction with the World Heritage Convention. The sites on the World Heritage list from this region are few compared to those of other countries around the world, which is due to the lack of active work in promoting the richness of the region.

    The Convention grants international recognition of sites that it includes in its list. This provides opportunities to acquire financial and technical assistance and brings forth the Arab countries in the international arena.

  • 27 February - March : Launch of Delta project "Development of Territorial cultural Systems" in Rome, Italy and first meeting of the Steering Committee.

  • 30 Jan – 3 Feb : CCHP participated at the FITUR tourism fair in Spain. The marketing of Bethlehem and Palestine is an extension of the Centre’s work in cultural heritage preservation and community development and is part of its contribution to sustainable tourism development.
